He is a Brazilian footballer for Spanish club Real Madrid and the Brazil national team. He plays mainly as a left back. He can also play as a left winger. Marcelo is known as the best left back in the world, One of the greatest left backs of all time. In 2005, he won a Campeonato Carioca with Fluminense and in 2006.  He was named to the Brasileirão Team of the Season. At the end of the year, he link with Real Madrid for a $8 million fee at age 18. Marcelo came out for Brazil in 2006 verses Wales, scoring a goal.

He was called up for the 2008 Olympic squad, where he got a bronze medal. Marcelo play futsal at the age of nine. And by the age of 13, he was on the books of Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro. He comes from a very poor background and even going to quit football, but his grandfather persuaded him to continue with the sport.

in 2007 Marcelo align with  Real Madrid during the January transfer window. On his apperance, club President Ramón Calderón said, “He is an important signing for us. Many spectators  yell for him as Roberto Carlos‘ imaginable successor in the left-back role.Under the next head coach Manuel Pellegrini, Marcelo frequently highlighted in the starting XI for his skillfulness and pace with the left flank in offensive and defensive roles. He uphold to be work as a left-winger under Pellegrini, and touch the top of the assist charts of La Liga in the 2009–10 season.
